In order to deepen his understanding, Mol lived in Japan for several years,
where he was disciple of Grandmaster Tanaka Fumon and Grandmaster Nakashima Atsumi.
He has an extensive collection of Tokugawa period manuscripts of martial arts ryu-ha, and collects Japanese arms and armor.
Serge Mol has received the rank of menkyo kaiden in Enshin Ryu- Iai and received menkyo in Hoki Ryu jujutsu.
