ORGANIZATION
Danish Traditional Kendo Federation (in japanese: Denmâku Dentô Kendô Renmei, デンマーク伝統剣道連盟) is an independent organization, founded in 2008.
The purpose is to organize, maintain the structure and integrity of Japanese swordsmanship from the Tokugawa period (1603-1868). In the light of historical circumstances the Federation organizes different Kendo traditions from the Tokugawa period.
Education under Danish Traditional Kendo Federation covers Kendo, Kenjutsu, Iaijutsu and Jujutsu in relation to swordsmanship.
Swordsmanship is not practiced in order to destroy the opponent (satsujin-ken) but rather to build one's character (katsujin-ken) through rigid practice therefore the Federation does not cover Sport.
Kendo traditions and modernity
Historically Kendo is traditional tied to the Tokugawa period (1603-1868)
because Kendo has its origin to this period where the feudal samurai were living. On the other hand,
the modernity within kendo is a result of the Meiji-restoration in 1868 where the samurai class subsequently
was phase out over a short number of years in line with the modern development of Japan.
In this way Kendo from the Tokugawa period and the modern kendo do not only differ in their origin
but also in their purpose, method of training and social structure.
These circumstances are described on this web place with associated links.

Chiyoda Castle 千代田城 in Yedo (today Tokyo) was built in 1457. The Chiyoda Castle was the residence for the ruling Tokugawa family in
c. 1603-1868.
International collaboration
Danish Traditional Kendo Federation has established international co-operation with organizations which
share the interest in preserving the swordsmanship from the Tokugawa period.
Our collaborators do not necessarily share all our positions.
